The Journey
About the Zagreb to Plitvice Lakes Route
Plitvice Lakes National Park is Croatia's most visited natural attraction, and a private transfer is by far the most comfortable way to reach it from Zagreb. The two-hour drive leads through the rolling countryside of Kordun and past the watermill village of Rastoke before arriving directly at the park entrance of your choice.
Because Plitvice is a walking destination, the logistics matter: with a private transfer you start early to beat the crowds, leave your bags safely in the vehicle, and choose freely between a return day trip to Zagreb or continuing onward to Zadar, Split or the coast after your visit — the route through the park can even start at one entrance and finish at the other, with your driver waiting at the exit.

Along the Way
Popular Stops on This Route
Rastoke
The 'small Plitvice' at Slunj, where historic watermills stand over dozens of cascades — a perfect 30-minute stop on the way to the park.
Barać Caves
A short detour from the park, these show caves offer an atmospheric underground contrast to the lakes above.
Onward to the Coast
After your visit, continue to Zadar (about 1.5 hours) or Split (about 2.5 hours) instead of returning — Plitvice sits perfectly between Zagreb and Dalmatia.
Any stop can be added to your transfer — simply mention your wishes in the booking form and your fixed quote will include them.
Why Go Private
Private Transfer vs. Bus & Train
Public buses do run past Plitvice, but timetables rarely match the ideal early start, luggage must be dragged along or left at park lockers, and returning at your own pace is impossible. Organised coach tours fix the schedule for you — including how long you may stay.
With a private transfer you decide everything: departure time, which entrance to start from, how many hours to spend among the lakes, and whether to head home, to the coast, or to dinner in Rastoke afterwards. Your driver waits while you walk — no watching the clock.

F.A.Q
Frequently Asked Questions
-
How long does the transfer from Zagreb to Plitvice take?
About 2 hours from your Zagreb address to the park entrance.
-
Does the driver wait while we visit the park?
Yes. For day trips the driver waits during your visit — typically 4 to 6 hours — and can collect you at a different entrance from the one where you started.
-
Should we buy park tickets in advance?
In July and August, yes — entrance tickets for Plitvice should be booked online ahead of your visit. In quieter months tickets are usually available on the day.
-
Can we continue to Zadar or Split after Plitvice instead of returning to Zagreb?
Absolutely, that is one of the most popular options: a morning at the lakes and an evening arrival on the coast.
